If there is a repeating truth I have been seeing in the gospels as I read them, it is that Jesus is above everything. Nothing is impossible to Him; nothing has the last word on Him. He is able to do more than what we think or imagine. Even death does not hold him back! The way He resurrected Lazarus is still one of the most powerful miracles Jesus performed in my opinion because He proved then that nothing, was above Him. Indeed, at that moment, you could see that all authority on earth and above had been given to Jesus (Matthew 28:18). My encouragement today, is a simple one: Jesus is above everything! Therefore, He can be trusted with anything. He is a comforter; he brings hope in all situations. There is no other truth. If you put your hope and faith in Him, He is faithful and just to deliver you from all unrighteousness. Not only that, Jesus, by dying on the cross made it possible for you to receive eternal life; to live with him forever! As Romans 8:38 says, there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God. Christ has secured that for us. So, rest in that truth because knowing it will set you free.
We are limited creatures, living in a limited world and there are so many things we do not know. Many things have been hidden from us by God, mysteries have not been revealed to the majority, we spend our lives trying to understand our world, ourselves and the ways of God but the more we do that, the more we realize that we are small. In that sense, God shows us that He is above us and that our ways are not His, and we should come to accept that because that is humility.
There are not many life circumstances that remind us of our smallness and our limitations like death. Death is probably one of the hardest and harshest realities of life on earth. Death is not an event we wish for, it is not an event we live for, it is not an event we seek despite the fact that we know we will all go through it. It is such a dark event as it makes us realize our petiteness, our insignificance and our powerlessness, and the futility of this world. When you are a child, the reality of death does not hit you as much, you have no understanding of it really and even if you hear of death, it does not sink in. You think the dead person is simply sleeping and that he or she will wake up eventually. But when you are an adult, you get to be hit by it, the sheer ugliness of its presence in this world and often it leaves us powerless. Dear ones, I want to encourage you, just as I am encouraging and reminding myself of the truth that death does not have the final word in Christ. On the cross, Jesus defeated death, so whoever comes to him in faith will never die, even when he dies, he will live (John 11:26). Sin is deadly, sin is bad, sin has horrible consequences, but sin has been paid for, sin has been eradicated, Jesus took away our sins and in return gave us his righteousness; that is our hope. Like 1 Corinthians 15:55 says “O death where is your sting? O grave where is your victory?”, Jesus Christ gives us the victory, Amen. Situations might seem hopeless but in Christ and with Christ it is always hopeful. He is Hope. That is why He came into this world. Our Father in heaven is a wonderful God, He planned everything so that whoever believes in him would have life and have it abundantly. I am forever grateful at the sacrifice you made Jesus, at the way you paved for us to come to the Father and have life. I pray O God that these truths will remain in us, in our hearts, and that you will continue to bring many to the knowledge of you. This world needs you and cries out to you.
Therefore, today if you are hurt, troubled, in pain, heavy-hearted, not sure what to do with yourself, I encourage you to open your mouth and declare the truth of Romans 8:38, open your mouth and talk to Jesus, talk to the Father and talk to the Holy Spirit. Lay your heart bare before your God, He is always present, always ready to listen and most importantly always willing to act on your behalf. You’d be surprised at how much you are loved by God. This simple act of speaking to him will strengthen you. Seek His presence, seek Him when you feel like the world does not understand you and you only want to resort to one thing, that is to take your life. I plead with you; Jesus has made it possible so that death does not have the last word in your life. Believe in Him and everlasting life will be yours.
