Thankfulness

I had the privilege this week of celebrating my birthday with my church family through singing and dancing. I had so much joy doing that and felt the sweet loving presence of my Father with me. The sweet aroma of Christ was being spread to all who partook in that singing and this is something only God could do. Moreover, I was personally blessed by all the love received from my dear family, my friends and even colleagues and acquaintances. I wondered why the LORD would single me out in such a manner to shower me with His love and all I could say was thank you. Indeed, there is so much I am thankful to the LORD for so this post is my attempt to recount His faithfulness in my life.

Sometimes you just marvel at what the LORD has done throughout the ages in your life, and you wonder why me? The same way David marveled at God taking notice of him, a mere man is how I too marvel during those times (Psalm 8:1-4). I have no reasons to boast for what I have been given or for who I am in this life because my Father has done all things for me. He has loved me before the foundation of the world, He has filled me with His presence, He has pursued me and made me His own, He has rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me into the kingdom of light, He has given me all that I need. There is nothing in this world, no adversity I go through that I do on my own. In fact, the battles I face I face them with Him, always reminding me that He is in control. He is my present help in times of need (Psalm 46:1). He is more faithful than a friend, He is a better friend one can have and ask for. Today, if you don’t know Him, you need to know Him. Call upon His name, and He will answer you (Jeremiah 33:3). He has promised to come near us if we come near Him (James 4:8). He longs for a relationship with you, that is why He sent His son Jesus to die on the cross for your sins and the sins of the world. He is a good and just God who does not delight in iniquity, a holy God in whom there is no filth. His values are better and purer than ours. He will not compromise on His character, but He wants to cleanse you and turn your life around just as He did for me as He continues to keep me on a steady path with Him. The joy that I have in my heart cannot come from me, it is a pure gift of God to me and for that I am so thankful. Words cannot express how I feel, and this week was such a testament of the hand of God in my life.

Lord Jesus, you have made me who I am today. I am nothing without you. You are what makes my life worth living. Without you in it, my life would be meaningless. You brought life and meaning to my life, giving me purpose. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I pray you turn your eyes to this God, the God of the Bible, this Jesus who loves you as much as He loves me. I am not special; the love He has for me is also available to anyone who would believe in Him (John 3:16-17). So today, know that my Father wants to adopt you as His own child. All you have to do is accept Him as a Father and the rest will be history. You see, Jesus came into this world because God the Father sent him to die on the cross in order to pay the price that our sins deserved, the price you and I could not pay for our atrocities, and wrongdoings against this Holy God. By dying on the cross as a punishment for our sins, Jesus cancelled any accusation that stood against us, he cleansed us of our unrighteousness and covered us with his righteousness so that we could be adopted into the family of God. This means we have changed status from orphans to heirs, co-heirs with Christ. We did not have a seat at a table, now we do. We had nothing to our name, now we have everything. There are many spiritual blessings that are now ours the moment we come to Christ and that is beautiful (Ephesians 1:3-14).

God is still in the business of changing lives so today, He is still ready and willing to change yours, but you have to let Him. He will not force His way on you, but He is gentle, waiting patiently for you to come to Him with your burdens and cares. He wants you to surrender to Him wholeheartedly. He wants you to trade your sorrows for His joy. Would you join me in this great adventure? Consider Jesus, he is all that you need. Amen.
